Welcome to Pimp My Profile, the column in which the WoW.com staff turns zeroes into heroes. Don’t think you’re performing where you should be? Not sure how your class/spec is supposed to be gearing up? E-mail us with your Armory link, and you might be next to receive our help!
I WANT TO RAID GOOD. Please, teach me to raid gooder than I already raid.
-Derongar
While I believe that your gear is pretty solid (at first I was confused by the lower stamina but then I realized you’d logged out in arms spec but tanking gear) there are a few places that can be adjusted.
Gems
First off, there’s really no reason to gem for defense, dodge or parry, not even for set bonuses. If you need a yellow gem for a set bonus, grab hit/stam. If you need a red gem, get expertise/stam. Looking at the stats, and keeping in mind that you’ll have full Anticipation when in tanking spec, there’s absolutely no reason to be gemming for dodge.
But while your hit is solid at 253 hit rating, your expertise is a low 14, only granting 3.5% dodge/parry reduction. That’s not enough: you’d probably want at least to shoot for the 26 that pushes dodges off of the melee attack table at the minimum. Everywhere I see a dodge/stam gem here I’d prefer to see expertise/stam until

Poster Sennshi makes a post to the general forums questioning why we have to run the whole dungeon to get the two frost emblems for completing our first random dungeon of the day. Thankfully, Crygil comes in and makes sure it is known that skipping to the end isn’t something Blizzard has in mind for heroics. It’s kind of sad that it even needed to be said, but at least they’ve said it.
I have to say, and keep in mind I’m one of the bitter sour curmudgeonly tanks who constantly gripes even when things are going well, but if you can’t endure a 20 minute instance run to get 2 frost badges, you need to reconsider running random heroics. Even the longest heroic dungeon is hardly so huge an imposition that you can’t get through it without asking for some kind of magical backdoor that summons the boss to you. We’ve seen changes to dungeons like Oculus to give players an incentive to run them or streamline them, going to some weird Thunderdome of boss summoning would be a step backwards in my opinion.

Two Bosses Enter … but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com’s series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to the quarter-finals of the Original Five-Man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let’s get ready to rumble!
When the magical energies had died down, it was indeed Loken who remained standing in last week’s Thunderdome matchup against Xevozz. The Dark Titan fought for every vote, claiming his victory with 52% spectator approval. We’ll review how things went down after the break, plus you’ll get a chance to vote in the last quarter-finals match of the season: Ymiron versus Krik’thir.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls … Dyin’ time’s here.
Last week: Loken shockwaves Xevozz
It was Loken with 52% to Xevozz’s 44.9% inside the Two Bosses Thunderdome last week. Although the final vote didn’t go this direction, we enjoyed reswab’s recounting of the battle:
Loken was the first to step outside of the shadow into the Thunderdome’s ring. Against the shadow of the other wall, he saw a faint glow move sporadically until a figure emerged from the darkness.
“Greetings Loken, I am Xevozz. You are probably wondering what we are doing here. Let me explain …”

Really, WoW.com? A guide to the Oculus of all things? Over a year after the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, you’re doing an Oculus walkthrough? Is that necessary? Boy, I wish it weren’t. We’re all sick of hearing about this place by now, but of all the instances and raids in the game, this is the one where nobody seems to be sure what to do or where to go. I haven’t seen players this confused since Sunwell.
All strategy and ability discussion in this guide discuss the heroic version of the Oculus. Beyond the cut below you will find simple strategies for each of the bosses in the Oculus, as well as maps to help you find your way through the environment.
Band of Variance
Drakos the Interrogator is the first boss in the Oculus, coming just after the bridge of many whelps. Despite what the visuals of his encounter suggest, the fight doesn’t require a very heavy amount of movement or coordination.
His abilities are as follows:
Magic Pull: Teleports all nearby enemy targets to the caster.
Thundering Stomp: Stomp the ground, dealing Physical damage to enemies in a large area and knocking them into the air. On heroic, this ability also slows your movement speed for five seconds.
Summon explosives: Drakos summons a bunch of bombs that scuttle along the ground

Every Monday Scott Andrews contributes Officers’ Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership.
Is it possible to turn a roleplaying guild into a casual raiding guild? Can the two groups mingle in the same community, or is it like mixing oil and water? This week, one guild leader has tried to do just that. Read on to find out how it has worked so far!
Hey Scott,
My boyfriend, and I recently made a guild. He’s more into the RP aspect of the game, and mainly focuses on recruiting RPers. Most of these individuals are nice people, but are usually under level 40, and don’t play or care enough to do anything serious end game when they get there. I was set on making it more of a raiding guild. Nothing too hardcore, but enough progression to be able to down most bosses in current raids. Before it was all put into practice it seemed like a good idea.
We’re having two problems. The first is that while I’m trying to recruit people, I also need to mention that we’re partially an RP guild, and that seems to make a lot of raiders not want to join our guild in favor of a full on raiding scenario. This is making it hard to gather enough people for a core group, soon making the ones that ARE there leave shortly after. The same applies to him. Since

The WoW Insider Show returns to the airwaves today at 3:30 PM Eastern time, bringing you post-new-years-eve fun. Today a guildy induced me to run Heroic Halls of Reflection on my tanking warrior. Sighing, I slapped on my heroic set and we went into the instance (actually, we ran all three ICC heroics) and when we finally got to the Lich King, said guildmate said “Okay, we’ll do the ledge strat.” I had no idea what the ledge strat entailed, and told him so. He said “go stand over there” and so, bewildered, I did as he asked.
What followed completely trivialized the event. So much so that I’m torn: on the one hand, I hate HoR in no small part due to the difficulty of picking up multiple abominations and tanking them while also trying to get aggro on the spell casting Risen Witch Doctors. The ‘ledge’ strategy is very simple: let Arthas walk past you and lumber his slow way up the tunnel after Jaina or Sylvanas like he always does. Meanwhile, the hordes of undead he spawns? They come running back to you, even if you’re still at the door to the ledge. Since you could never stop the Lich King from getting to Jaina anyway, you don’t lose anything for staying behind him, except that you no longer have to adjust in the event that the Lich King is getting closer to you with his aura of hurty.
Even more trivializing is that the further away from

May saw a huge influx of players to Ulduar, the end of the revamped Noblegarden holiday, Children’s Week, a paladin blogger named Ferarro, BlizzCon ticket queues (which, while packed to the scuppers, were nowhere near the nightmare they’d been in 2008), and the start of news concerning patch 3.2 and new druid forms (!).
Disappointment with the patch 3.1 game world: A lot of our staffers pointed to Alex’s article as a good pinpoint on why patch 3.1 didn’t feel like it was really moving the expansion forward.
Children’s Week ruins battlegrounds: I hated School of Hard Knocks because I thought it was a poorly-designed achievement spurring irresponsible play. Zach hated it because it’s also guaranteed to wreck battlegrounds for the length of the holiday.
Noblegarden: Sexy or Sexist?: Women are still vastly outnumbered by men in the MMO market, and Robin wonders whether this achievement going live was the right call.
Raid Rx: 10 clutch healing or tanking abilities: One of the most significant changes between Wrath and BC tanking has been the frequent appearance of tank-gibbing mechanics that demand the use of a cooldown. Matt Low takes you through the array of options available to you and how each option works.
