Our podcast took to the airwaves yet again last Saturday, and it was what you might call a rollicking good time. Turpster and I were on, and we welcomed both Alex Ziebart and Michael Sacco back to the show, to talk about BlizzCon last weekend, our experiences with the expansion’s new starter zones, and why Deathwing is actually a great choice for the Cataclysm’s bad guy.
And we answered your emails, including information about PvP vs. questing XP, our meetup (and the trip after BlizzCon to Disneyland — you can check out some pictures of the trip in the gallery below), and racial bonuses to tradeskills — how they work and what they’ll look like in the next expansion.
Was a great time, and you can hear all about it on the podcast below. If you have anything you’d like to tell us (either about something you heard on the show, or something you didn’t hear us talk about yet), feel free to send an email to theshow@wow.com, and you might hear it on the show next week. Enjoy.

How cute can a malign Death Knight really be? Apparently, if she’s a Gnome Death Knight done up arigurumi style – pretty darn cute. Espyr of Sen’jin-US shared this gift she crafted with love for her boyfriend’s pocket tank, Pipps. Apparently the character behind this meanie began her illustrious career as a Warrior but has transformed into something … biggah (in spirit, at least). “Interestingly, he has continued Pipps’ story so she has ‘become’ a Death Knight (on another server, Steamwheedle Cartel), and outside of WoW, he has written short stories about her younger life, being raised by Dwarves,” Espyr says. “I love that he can tell her whole story. It’s really interesting, I think, because he really thinks it out.”
Amigurumi (yes, we messed it up in the headline) dolls, originally from Japan, feature tightly crocheted, stuffed figures. Espyr added embroidery thread hair, painted black Sculpy armor and a painted felt cape to her custom

BlizzCon approaches! Preparing for BlizzCon is your regular source for tips on how best to prepare for Blizzard’s gaming extravaganza. These helpful hints are particularly suited for convention rookies. But if you are a con veteran, we’d love to hear your advice and wisdom in the comments as well.
BlizzCon is this week! Here are some last minute tips for making your trip incident-free.
Air Travel
Is your flight on time? Almost all airports these days have websites that give weather and flight status. Also, you can call your airline to verify everything is ok.
Get there early. If you are checking luggage, this is particularly true. Check in at least an hour before your flight if you are carrying on all your things. 2 hours is best if you are checking luggage.
Check in online. Most airlines will allow you to check in online and print your boarding pass 24 hours before your flight.
Don’t forget your I.D. You absolutely need your I.D. for getting on the plane and getting your BlizzCon badge. Keep it in a safe place on or severely close to your person.
Pack properly. Overweight and oversized luggage costs extra. This is the link to what you cannot bring on the plane. Also, if you are carrying your toiletries on, don’t forget 3-1-1.
Car Travel
Avoid heavy traffic.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Today is a day of, apparently, quick questions and quick answers. Most of the questions asked were fairly straightforward and not particularly involved. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is really up to you, but it is what it is: simple. I planned to embed a cartoon at the top of this video, but the aspect ratio made it gigantic if I used our standard width, so there’s a link instead.
whalt asked…
“Any idea if prior season PvP weapons will ever be available from honor/arena points and not require an arena rating like the old Glad weapons were back in BC?”
I don’t think we’ve heard anything about this, so I think you’ll need to wait for Blizzard commentary on that over on the official forums. If I had to guess, if they haven’t been doing it for previous seasons, they won’t do it for this one. Seems they like the weapons being a little more “out of reach” during this expansion.
Soryne asked…
“…What IS attack power? I cannot find an answer anywhere.”
I don’t think the comments section yesterday linked

Who doesn’t love original artwork that expresses the essence of your character? We were captivated by the character sketch Elnore of Argent Dawn-US sent us to go with her recent profile in 15 Minutes of Fame. As it turns out, the guildmate behind the artwork has just begun to accumulate a small portfolio of simple sketches.
“I’ve been sketching since I can remember, really, but not seriously until I was a teenager,” says Aigie. “I enjoy challenging myself with different perspectives and the process at which I got from point A to point B. This is why I use Artpad for most of my sketching. Sure, it’s not the top of the line program and it’s free — but it has a replay button, and you can see the logical process in which my work evolves. (And did I mention it was free? Hehe.)”
“I added my Photobucket so I can show the things I can do with a more sophisticated program, but the Warlock in Felheart is an ink sketch,” she continues. “I love experimenting

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Nearly 9,000 people voted that anchovies were gross in the last edition of The Queue. I wholeheartedly disagree! However, I know when I’m beat, so consider today’s picture an apology. If you think this picture is gross and don’t have some sort of allergy that has caused you to form that opinion, well… I can’t help you anymore. You are broken. May whatever deity (or non-deity) you believe in have mercy on your soul (or whatever your belief system keeps inside of your squishy bits).
Zayd asked…
“How long before Blizz let you change your characters race? If we can soon change faction then this seems the next logical step, it’s just a cosmetic change when you get down to it…”
The problem with race changes is that it isn’t just cosmetic, actually. You underestimate how much weight some people put on racials. When it comes to min/maxing, there are tons of players out there who will take their racials into consideration as well. You don’t want hundreds/thousands of arena players to pay $25 to switch to the new Flavor of the Month race because of

There’s a detailed server maintenance announcement for tomorrow, Tuesday August 4th. And off the bat: we still don’t know for sure if Patch 3.2 is dropping tomorrow. You can bet that we’ll be burning the midnight oil waiting to find out, though. (Note, that would be inadvisable. If you attempt to ignite a petroleum product on this ship at zero hundred hours you will activate the fire suppression system, which would seal off this entire compartment.)
All realms will be down from at least 3:00 a.m. PDT / 6:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 2:00 p.m. EDT tomorrow. However a large group of special realms will be down from 12:00 a.m. PDT / 3:00 a.m. EDT until 12:00 p.m. PDT / 3:00 p.m. EDT.
Those special realms are those in the battlegroups Emberstorm, Nightfall, Stormstrike, and Whirlwind.
Check after the break if you need to see a listing of which realms belong on those battlegroups, and stay tuned to WoW.com tonight and tomorrow for all the patch 3.2 goodness.
All the realms which will be offline for an extended period tonight include:
Emberstorm Battlegroup:
Antonidas- Normal
Drenden- Normal
Farstriders- RP
Hydraxis- Normal
Mok’Nathal- Normal
Moon Guard- RP
